Kalki 2898 AD draws inspiration from the Hindi epic Mahabharat. The film is set in a dystopian future and revolves around four characters- Bhairava (played by Prabhas) a bounty hunter trying to enter the utopian structure known as The Complex, ruled by Supreme Yaskin (Kamal Haasan); a pregnant woman SUM-80, later named Sumathi (played by Deepika) who is believed to be carrying the child who could be the final avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki; and lastly Ashwatthama (played by Amitabh) who has been tasked to protect the child by Lord Krishna.
The film marked Prabhas’ first on-screen collaboration with Deepika Padukone and Amitabh Bachchan. The Saaho actor will be next seen in the horror romantic comedy The Raja Saab and in director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s highly anticipated Spirit.
