Punjabi actress Neeru Bajwa is gearing up for her upcoming release, Shayar. The film also stars singer, songwriter and actor Satinder Sartaaj. In a recent interview, Neeru opened up about her journey in the Punjabi film industry and spoke about her latest project.
Neeru spoke about the one thing that the Punjabi film industry needs to improve. The Indian Express quoted her as saying, “Professionalism. We have a lot of work to do on ourselves as well. I love my industry, and I love the people so much, but until we are professional, we are not going anywhere. We need to grow much more.”
Reflecting on her journey in the industry, Neeru said, “It has been a beautiful journey. Punjabi cinema is home, and I’m so proud of it. I see the growth every single year. I’m very passionate about the industry, and I want to see it grow bigger, but I also think it has tested me at times. As an actress, I think people thought that I had achieved what they thought was the epitome of success for a woman, and I took that as a challenge.”
She added, “I wasn’t getting any film offers and when we produced our first film, I was pregnant at the time. We thought that we’d make a small-budget movie, do something different, we’d put our heart and soul into it and let’s see what happens. And it was a success and after that, I got Laung Laachi.”
Speaking about her upcoming film, Shayar, she said, “It is a beautiful love story and I’m so blessed to be a part of it. I was watching the film on my lunch break and I couldn’t get out of their love story. I was stuck there and was so immersed in their love.”
Neeru was also all praise for Satinder Sartaaj, who plays a poet in the film. She said, “I think he resonated with the character and he really connected with it. You won’t see him in the film, you’ll just be disconnected from him and you’ll see the character.”
The film releases today, April 19.
