Once Bollywood’s Top Heroines Refused To Work With Mithun Chakraborty, This Diva Lifted His Career
Mithun Chakraborty debuted in 1976 with the Bengali film, Mrigayaa.

It was the 80s, Hindi cinema’s busiest era, when a dusky, lanky, curly-haired boy, dressed in the shiniest outfit possible, appeared on the big screen and danced to tracks like I Am a Disco Dancer and Jimmy Jimmy. Anyone else dressed in those outfits and performing those moves would’ve looked comical, but Mithun Chakraborty’s aura was something else when his dancing shoes were on. But do you know that during the initial days of his career, the actor faced a lot of criticism due to his long height and dark complexion? He had to face a lot of taunts from people. Whenever he went to anyone to ask for work, they would mock him. Even after such taunts, the actor did not give up and proved himself with his first film itself. Today let’s take a look at the career journey of superstar Mithun Chakraborty.

The actor needs no introduction today. The actor has done many great films in his career, which include films like Disco Dancer, Shapath, Shatranj, and Swarag Se Sunder, to name a few. But there was a time in the career of Mithun Chakraborty, who ruled Bollywood in the 80s and 90s when no big heroine was ready to work with him.

Mithun Chakraborty entered the world of acting in 1976 with the film Mrigayaa. With his brilliant acting in this film, he mesmerized the audience as well as the critics. Mithun Chakraborty received the ‘National Film Award for Best Actor’ for his brilliant performance in the film. After winning the National Award for his debut film, the actor thought that now his luck would shine. But things turned out to be different. Despite being a National Film Award winner, he had to face rejection many times in the industry.

In many old interviews, Mithun Chakraborty mentioned that his journey from an actor to a superstar was not easy at all. Even after getting a lot of praise from critics for his debut film, the actor did not get work easily in the film industry. Mithun Chakraborty had said that due to his dark complexion, no top actress was ready to work with him; in such a situation, Zeenat Aman proved to be an angel for him. Zeenat Aman changed his fate by agreeing to work with Mithun Chakraborty in the 1983 superhit film Taqdeer. After giving a super hit film with the actress, Mithun Chakraborty never looked back in his career.

The actor said, “Seeing Zeenat Aman, other heroines also started agreeing to work with me and I became an A-lister.”

After becoming a superstar, there came a time in the actor’s life when he had to work in B-grade films. His son, Mimoh, revealed the reason why his father decided to do it. He said he did everything to support the family being the only breadwinner in the house and had to manage a lot of expenses.

For the unversed, the actor has worked in 350 films in his career so far, but at one time, he had to work in a B-grade film, Dance of Love.
