Bollywood veteran Ranjeet says he is worried about the increasing amount of “vulgarity and inappropriate” content in movies and web series on OTT platforms. He mentioned in a recent interview with ANI that despite being in the industry for a long time, he has only watched a few web series during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ranjeet criticised the use of explicit language and scenes in films, saying it can make people uncomfortable in front of their families and staff. He said, “And during COVID times, will you believe me if I say I have only seen two to three web series? Two were English historical and one Indian. I didn’t watch other projects. Nowadays, there is vulgarity and inappropriate language used in the movies that make you embarrassed in front of your staff and family members.”
He also said he’s upset about the molestation scenes and item numbers in movies today and that he is ashamed of the gambling shown in ads in our country. “What is all happening in the ads as well in this country, they are showing gambling in the ads. I am ashamed,” he said.
The 82-year-old actor compared this to the item numbers from the past, especially in the ’80s. Back then, experienced actors like Waheeda Rehman, Helen, and Bindu performed with grace and skill. “Earlier during the ’80s, there were item numbers in which Waheeda Rehman ji, Helen ji, and Bindu ji used to perform and they had grace in what they did. They were all trained in whatever they did and it was an art. Their dresses were also not revealing,” he remembered.
Known for his villainous roles, Ranjeet also shared a memorable encounter with veteran actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor during a recent interview. Recalling his first meeting with Kapoor at the studio, Ranjeet mentioned being in awe of the life-size cut-outs of actresses from Kapoor’s films. Describing Kapoor’s charm, Ranjeet mentioned his fair complexion, red cheeks, and light eyes, recalling how the actor’s on-screen persona closely mirrored his real-life demeanour.
