According to a source, Subhash Ghai has completed the script for Khalnayak 2. The director, known for the original film starring Sanjay Dutt, is currently in discussions with a few promising young actors for the role of the iconic character, Ballu Balram.
According to IndiaToday.in, Ghai has finalised the script for the film. While it remains uncertain if Sanjay Dutt will return for the sequel, Ghai is eager to cast a young actor as Ballu Balaram. That apart, he is also considering popular actors from the South for the role.
The source close to the development told IndiaToday.in, “Subhash Ghai wants to approach actors like Ranveer Singh and Ranbir Kapoor for the character of Ballu Balram. In fact, he isn’t sticking to just Bollywood. Allu Arjun and Yash are also in his list and he wants to approach them as well. He just wants someone who would be able to take the legacy of Ballu Balaram forward.”
Not long back, Subhash Ghai had told Etimes, “The truth is I am not looking for actors to play Ballu Balram but a younger actor to play a new character in Khalnayak 2 who will be pitted against Ballu Balram who is 55 years old man now. Ballu will be played Sanjay Dutt only. Like Al Pacino played in Godfather 2 and Marlon Brando played Godfather 1.”
Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, and Anupam Kher all starred in ‘Khalnayak’. They got together last year to celebrate the movie’s 30th anniversary. The film faced controversies when it was released. The song ‘Choli Ke Peechay Kya Hai’ from the movie was very popular and was also used in the 2024 film ‘Crew’.
The 1993 film revolved around a guard from the prison pretending to be a dancer to catch an escaped criminal, Balaram Prasad alias Ballu, and help her police inspector boyfriend.
