Will the film do justice to the 1959 case of KM Nanavati case vs State of Maharashtra? Will Akshay-Neeraj association churn out another thriller?

With Akshay Kumar playing the lead, Rustom, which has released today, is expected to have his fans rushing to theatres. Considering the fact that his recent releases – Airlift, Baby, Singh Is Bling crossed the coveted Rs 100 crore mark, the star certainly understands the interest of his fans.

His new project Rustom is the third film to be inspired by the KM Nanavati case after Yeh Raaste hain Pyaar Ke and Achanak. The film revolves around the navy commander Rustom Pavri (Akshay Kumar) who kills the lover (Arjun Bajwa) of his wife (Ileana D’Cruz) under dubious circumstances.

For the uninitiated, the Nanavati case was interesting for multiple reasons: it led to the elimination of the jury system in India, resulted in clashes between two communities (the Parsis, and the Sindhis ) and the part that media played in forming public opinion on the case. Produced by Neeraj Pandey and other, and directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, the film also features Montasir Rishad and Esha Gupta.
