Salman Khan once opened up about his run-in with a blackbuck herd. The actor was accused of poaching blackbucks in a village in Rajasthan, in 1998. Salman was filming for Hum Saath-Saath Hain with Saif Ali Khan, Tabu and Sonali Bendre. The accusations led to Salman getting entangled in a massive legal row. The case, that went on for 26 years, had Salman arrested, released on bail, acquitted, convicted and released on bail again. During the case, Salman gave a few interviews to share his side of the story. In one of them, he confirmed, he did cross paths with a herd of blackbucks.
Speaking with Sonia Singh of NDTV in 2009, Salman Khan said he only fed the blackbuck. He also narrated the events that panned out which led to the case. “I think this is where it has come from. One day after pack-up, we would driving by, all of us, there was Saif, there was Tabu, there was Neelam, there was Amrita, there was Sonali, and we saw a deer fawn stuck in a bush,” he said.
Salman added, “The whole herd was there, so I stopped the car and he was like petrified. We took him out from there and gave him some water. He was like scared. After a while, he ate mast biscuit-wiscuit khaya, and he want away. We packed up early that day. We all were going together. I think from there, this whole thing came.”
While Salman was punished, co-accused Saif Ali Khan, Sonali Bendre, Tabu and Neelam Kothari were given the benefit of doubt and were acquitted.
The case has now led to Salman receiving death threats from gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his members. The actor has received a few threats since 2022. Gunshots were fired outside his home in Mumbai earlier this year as well. Salman’s friend, political leader Baba Siddique was murdered earlier this month. Bishnoi’s gang members took responsibility of his murder and gave a threat to Salman again. Meanwhile, Salman has been granted tight security.
