Despite coming from a well-known film family, actor Sanjay Kapoor has faced many challenges in his career. He was launched into the industry by his brother, producer Boney Kapoor, with a lead role in Prem (1995), but soon struggled to find success. While he starred in some big projects, his career didn’t take off as expected, and he mainly got offered small roles from a few directors. Recently, Sanjay Kapoor talked about his career journey, recalling how his brother Boney didn’t offer him roles during his tough times.
“My brother (Boney) didn’t cast me when I was going through the (tough) phase. When he made No Entry, he could have taken me instead of Fardeen Khan; but he didn’t,” he said while taking part in Shivani Pau’s podcast. “There already was Anil Kapoor and Salman Khan in its cast, so he could have sold the picture anyway. The picture would have done well anyway even if he took me. Things would have still happened the way it happened and No Entry would have been a blockbuster,” he said.
Recalling why he offered Fardeen Khan the role, Sanjay said, “But he took Fardeen because, at that time, he was more sellable than me. I haven’t worked in my brother’s production in the last 20 years. When I was producing films and going through this low (phase), it was not that they didn’t love me. But it is business at the end of the day,” he added.
Not long ago, producer Boney Kapoor revealed plans for a sequel to No Entry, with actors Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Arjun Kapoor stepping in to replace the original cast. He shared that his brother, Anil Kapoor, was disappointed about not being part of the new film. “Before I could tell my brother Anil about the No Entry sequel and the cast involved, he got angry as the news was already leaked. It was unfortunate that it was leaked. I know he wanted to be a part of the No Entry sequel, but there was no space. I wanted to explain why I did what I did,” Boney Kapoor had said during a chat with Zoom Entertainment in March. He had added, “Varun and Arjun are great friends. Their chemistry could come out in the story, and Diljit is massive today. He has a great fan following. I wanted to make it relevant in today’s time. That’s why I did this casting. In the process, my brother is still not talking properly. I hope it all gets sorted out soon.”
