The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival was graced by renowned personalities all over the globe. It was like a star-studded dream. Popular singer and actress Selena Gomez was spotted looking teared-eye after her film Emilia Perez received a nine-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18.

Other than Selena Gomez, Zoe Saldaña and Karla Sofía Gascón were also seen wiping their tears after the film received praise from the audience. Even when director Jacques Audiard spoke in French, the audience continued cheering for a minute at the Cannes Film Festival.

Emilia Perez, billed as a musical crime drama is based on the life of a Mexican drug lord who changes from being a man to a woman. Selena Gomez lent her voice to a few songs for the movie’s soundtrack and speaks Spanish in the film. Other actors including Zoe Saldana and newcomer Karla Sofía Gascón were also seen in the film. Gascón was roped in to play the gangster seeking legal assistance for gender confirmation surgery.

For the Emilia Perez red carpet event on Saturday, Gomez wore a stunning black Saint Laurent dress and looked dazzling. The gown had a white off-the-shoulder neckline, and she paired it with sleek black platform Santoni heels. Adding some bling to her ensemble, she adorned herself with Bulgari jewellery, including a dazzling diamond choker, multiple rings and earrings.

Soon after the movie ended, director Jacques Audiard extended his gratitude. Then, the audience stood up and clapped for 2 minutes. Currently, the film is creating a huge buzz and even critics could not stop praising the film. Now, the film is expected to soon hit the cinema halls.

Emilia Perez is still nominated for the Palme d’Or, which is the top prize at the Cannes Film Festival. This is possible because of its great storyline and the actors’ performances.

The musical crime comedy Emilia Perez has been said to beat the Indian film Andhadhun, which starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Radhika Apte, and Tabu. Andhadhun is considered India’s best crime comedy and has achieved notable success in China.
