Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi was released on Netflix earlier this month. While the web series received mixed reviews, it soon became a talking point among audiences for its historical inaccuracies and casting choices. Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his niece, Sharmin Segal, who essays the role of Alamzeb in the series, especially bore the brunt of heavy critique by the viewers. Among this, a new video of Sharmin and Aditi getting into a disagreement has gone viral.
In the now-viral clip, Sharmin said, “Actor ki jaat insecure hoti hai.” Aditi disagreed with her comment and interjected, “Nahi but actors are human beings.” Sharmin continued, “If you’re not insecure, I mean, let’s leave Sona out of this because Sona is the most secure person I know. But genuinely, insecurity main bhi koi jaadu hoti hai.”
Thank you Heeramandi for atleast bringing back chaotic promotionsbyu/pardonme_9638 inBollyBlindsNGossip
“If you are not insecure then you’re not pushing yourself to a certain limit. Insecurity main maza hai,” Sharmin said. Her statements did not sit right with Aditi Rao Hydari. She said, “No no, insecurity is horrible. No, I don’t like it.” Aditi and Sonakshi’s expressions while Sharmin spoke have gone viral across social media.
One person commented, “Aditi’s eye-roll and ‘chalo chhod deti hoon’ expression .” Another added, “Sonakshi was so funny in this one. She could not contain her laughter.” One comment read, “Sonakshi in every single interview is just trying to keep her laughter in.” Another read, “Sonakshi can be a riot sometimes yaar.”
One netizen wrote in the comments section, “I just love these promotion videos, so much more entertaining than the series only .” Another added, “I just know they all have a group chat without Sharmin.”
Sharmin Segal, who is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, has been receiving a volley of criticism for her “expressionless” performance in the Netflix series Heeramandi. A section of the internet even claims that “nepotism got her this role”. Recently, actor Shruti Sharma, who played Sharmin’s maid in Heeramandi, came out in her support.
In an interview with Pinkvilla, Shruti said that she was unaware of Sharmin being subjected to hate comments on social media. She said, “Honestly, I wasn’t aware that people were trolling her until now. I don’t know what audiences have liked or not liked about Sharmin, but I’ve seen her trying her best like everyone else on the sets. It doesn’t matter who’s being trolled, but trolling is a bad thing to do.”
She added, “Criticism is one thing; healthy criticism is always welcome, but trolling is unacceptable. It is a very negative way of approaching anyone. It is a kind of mental harassment. If it is happening, I am very concerned for her right now.”
Sharmin, the daughter of Bella Bhansali Segal and Deepak Segal, plays the role of Alamzeb in the show, which boasts an ensemble cast of acclaimed actors like Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Richa Chadha, Shekhar Suman, and Aditi Rao Hydari. While Manisha, Sonakshi and Aditi have been getting much love and appreciation for their solid performances, Sharmin has been receiving a huge backlash for “holding the same expression” throughout the show.
