Reports have emerged in recent days indicating that SHINee’s Taemin and Onew may part ways with SM Entertainment after 16 years of collaboration. According to a South Korean media outlet, the singers are poised to leave the label to pursue solo endeavours. It’s been suggested that Taemin’s exclusive contract with SM Entertainment will conclude in March 2024, and he currently has no intentions of renewing it. Amidst swirling speculations and rumours, the South Korean singer has now addressed the possibility of departing from SM Entertainment.
Taking to the fan communication platform Bubble, Taemin revealed that he had been thinking about it since last year and has also discussed it with his members, thus seemingly confirming his exit.

“The sudden news was surprising, right? To be honest, I wanted to tell you myself cause I didn’t want you to worry about unnecessary things, but it came out before I could. I’ve been giving this a lot of thought since last year, so I’ve talked it through with the members and the company,” he wrote.
Further expressing his gratitude towards his fans and supporters, Taemin concluded by expressing that he will always remain SHINee’s Taemin for his fans and assured that there might be better things in store for the future. “Thank you for believing in me and supporting my decision. I’m being careful cause of how fresh this is, but I don’t think it’s polite to stay silent when it comes to people who love and care for me. I believe there will be even better things in store for the future,” the note read.

SM Entertainment On SHINee members’ contract
On 5 March 2024, SM Entertainment in a statement reassured fans that SHINee would remain; however, displayed a sense of uncertainty regarding the members’ contract renewal. Stating that the members will continue group promotions, it added that the contracts regarding their activities will be decided upon based on each member’s wishes.
“We are in the midst of positive discussions with Key and Minho regarding their individual activities as well as their group ones. Onew is exploring as he leaves himself open to various directions. Our exclusive contract with Taemin ends in March, and nothing has been confirmed about after his contract ends. We heard he is considering things from various angles,” it further read.
