Sonakshi Sinha has remained steadfast in her stance against filming intimate and kissing scenes for screen roles. Despite this, her portrayal of Fareedan in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi attracted attention, notably for her bold performance. In a candid interview, Sonakshi spoke about her views on kissing or intimate scenes. She also talked about her principles and experience of working in an industry where people expect you to follow certain rules.
Speaking to Etimes, Sonakshi Sinha said, “Good actor will always get work. In my entire career, I don’t think I have lost out on anything that has had a kissing scene or intimate scene. I’ve always made it clear to my director, the filmmaker with whom I’m working ‘This is something I’m not comfortable doing…’ it is totally up to you. If you still want to go ahead with me, if you think as an actor, I would bring something to the table, I will do the film but find a way around that, let’s work it out or you are very free to go to someone else who is comfortable doing that. So, the option is always open nobody is left.”
When asked if her role in Heeramandi changed her as an actor, Sonakshi replied, “Yes. It was a very gruelling set. Sanjay sir is someone who challenges you and pushes you to be the best version of yourself, and I think that is what he has done to me. I’m much more patient and much more resilient. I worked with such an amazing cast of women; I got to learn so much from them. So, definitely yes.”
In Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, Sonakshi Sinha portrayed the character of Fareedan Jaan, the chief courtesan of Khwabgah. She played the role of Rehana and Zulfikar’s daughter and was the lover of Wali Bin Zayed-Al Mohammed. Alongside Sonakshi, the period drama featured a stellar cast including Manisha Koirala, Aditi Rao Hydari, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Sharmin Segal Mehta, Richa Chadha, Taha Shah Badussha, Shekhar Suman and more.
On the professional front, Sonakshi has an exciting array of projects in her pipeline. Her next endeavour will see her on the silver screen in Avinash Dwivedi’s upcoming horror-comedy drama, Kakuda. The film is about a town stuck in time due to a curse, where three people encounter a ghost that challenges their beliefs in superstition, tradition and love.
Additionally, she will also star in another horror film titled Nikita Roy and the Book of Darkness by Kussh Sinha. The film also features Paresh Rawal and Arjun Rampal in lead roles.
