South Korean actress Han So Hee’s mother has been arrested. The news was revealed late Monday. The actress’s mother has been arrested for allegedly running ‘multiple illegal gambling houses’. The business has been in function from 2021 until the end of last month. Reports claimed she was running the business using a front man.
According to Han So Hee’s agency, 9ato Entertainment, Han So Hee was unaware of the alleged illegal business and learned about her mother’s arrest through the news. The recent developments have left Han So Hee ‘devastated.’
“Hello, this is 9ato Entertainment. We would like to share our position on the reports regarding the mother of our actress Han So Hee. The report from yesterday (September 2) concerns Han So Hee’s mother’s personal and independent actions. Han So Hee was devastated upon learning about it through the news,” the agency said.
“We want to reiterate that this incident is entirely her mother’s independent actions and has nothing to do with the actress. We apologize for delivering such uncomfortable news related to personal matters rather than her work,” the agency added.
This is not the first time that Han So Hee’s mother has been in the new for the wrong reason. In March 2022, her mother dragged Han So Hee’s name into her past frauds worth tens of millions of wons. At the time, the agency issued a statement saying Han So Hee “no plans to take responsibility for her mother’s debt.” This was enough to show that Han So Hee has had a strained relationship with her mother.
Han So Hee has been in the news for a few negative reasons this year. The actress was subjected to scrutiny over her educational background after doubts surrounding her enrollment at a French art university arose. She was also involved in the dating scandal involving Ryu Jun Yeol and Hyeri.
