The Paris Olympics 2024 came to a spectacular end on August 11, featuring athletes and prominent names from the entertainment industry in attendance. The finale included fireworks, musical performances and a thrilling stunt show by Tom Cruise. As the world moves on from these games, Netflix India caught the internet’s attention by introducing their own version of the Olympics. In a recent Instagram post, the streaming giant honoured beloved characters from popular TV shows and movies with gold medals for their unique quality. The post featured names like Ian Somerhalder, Shah Rukh Khan and Bryan Cranston, among others.
Netflix’ tribute included Ian Somerhalder’s Damon Salvatore from The Vampire Diaries as the gold medalist in ‘Stealing Your Girl.’ Breaking Bad’s Walter White and Jesse Pinkman won gold in ‘Cooking.’ Shah Rukh Khan’s Rahul from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was honoured for ‘Undefeated Rizz,’ while Kajol’s Anjali Sharma from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham was recognised for ‘Yapping.’ Ranbir Kapoor earned a gold medal for ‘Yearning’ in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar and Sonakshi Sinha’s character Fareedan from Heeramandi was awarded gold in ‘Kalesh.’ Giving the hilarious tribute, the streamer wrote, “Main bhi sports."
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise added a thrilling touch to the closing ceremony of the Paris Olympics 2024. Known for his daring stunts, the actor skydived into the Stade de France. Following this dramatic entrance, Cruise met with athletes, received the Olympic flag from Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and gymnast Simone Biles, and then attached the flag to his motorcycle. The Hollywood star was then spotted riding through the streets of Paris, with a pre-recorded video which captured his journey towards Hollywood for the 2028 Games.
Other than Tom Cruise, H.E.R. sang the US national anthem in France, while Billie Eilish, Snoop Dogg and Red Hot Chili Peppers performed in Los Angeles for 2028 games. The event also included performances by popular French bands Phoenix and Air, along with Belgian pop star Angele.
At the Paris Olympics 2024, the United States, China and Japan claimed the top three spots, with 126, 91 and 45 medals respectively. India finished in 71st place, as the athletes won a total of 6 medals, including 1 Silver and 5 Bronze.
