Stree 2 star Rajkummar Rao, who is currently enjoying the success of the film, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor, recently shared the reason behind changing his name from Rajkummar Yadav to Rajkummar Rao. When asked if the name change was due to Bollywood traditions, where many actors adopt stage names, he clarified, in a chat with Shubhankar Mishra, that there is no such rule in the industry. Instead, his decision was driven by the confusion that arose due to the presence of several other Rajkummars in the film fraternity. By adopting the surname Rao, he wanted to do away with the confusion and create a distinct identity for himself.
“Aisa koi rule nahin hai. Maine kabhi surname use kiya nahi tha. Mere passport mein bhi sirf Rajkummar hee tha (There’s no such rule. I had never used a surname before. Even in my passport, it’s just Rajkummar). This is for people to not get confused as to which Rajkummar you are talking about. Rajkummar Hirani, Santoshi, Gupta or this one. And Rao is a title which is given to Yadavs, so I started using it,” he said.
Meanwhile, commenting on the success of Stree 2, Rajkummar Rao, in an exclusive interview with News18, said, “We were sure that the film would get lot of love because of the love that Stree 1 got. There’s a big fan-following for Stree. But these numbers are way above our expectations. We are very glad and super elated and there’s a lot of gratitude that this is happening with a film like Stree, because it is very content-driven film.”
“These numbers… they mean that those many people have seen the film. Whatever the number is, it means that people have made an effort to go the theatre to watch your film. That is very gratifying for me. [It means] lakhs of people have gone to theatres to root for you, to whistle during a particular scene where you were performing. That is a very humbling experience for me,” he added.
Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2 worldwide box office collection has crossed Rs 500 crore. The film received positive reviews.
