Taylor Swift has been making the headlines. This time, not for her whirlwind romance with NFL star Travis Kelce, but for her 11th studio album Tortured Poets Department. Reportedly based on her previous partners, especially Joe Alwyn and Matty Healy, the album is believed to showcase Taylor Swift navigating through love and heartbreak. The audio version of the album’s first single, titled Fortnight, featuring Post Malone was unveiled by the Grammy winner on April 19. Now, taking the excitement of fans a notch higher, she has dropped Fortnight’s official music video in the wee hours of April 20.
Fortnight’s black and white visuals opens with Taylor Swift lying on a hospital bed, dressed up as a goth bride. Her hands are tied to the railings of the bed. Soon a nurse gives her a pill that she swallows, presumably before going for electrotherapy. She wipes her face to reveal her tattoed face, resembling that of Post Malone’s before breaking free from the all-white room. As Swift walks out of the premises, she enters an office in another black gown, minus any face ink. Post Malone, sits on her opposite side and the two operate typewriters. The words, “I love you, it’s ruining my life" were written on the paper.
In the flashback scenes, both Taylor Swift and Post Malone picture happy times, running into each others’ arms and sleeping beside each other with eyes full of love. Soon the scene shifts to the hospital premises where Swift is bound into a chair ready to get electrocuted. Among the doctors, one of them is Malone conducting the therapy. However, Malone realising she was in pain removes the device and what follows is a tumultuous sequence of aesthetic and dark scenes. Taylor Swift and Malonr go through stages of affection and heartbreak with the video ending with them holding hands.
Earlier, Taylor Swift expressed her admiration for Post Malone on Instagram. “I’ve been such a huge fan of Post because of the writer he is, his musical experimentation, and those melodies he creates that just stick in your head forever. I got to witness that magic come to life firsthand when we worked together on Fortnight," she wrote.
Besides Fortnight there are 16 tracks in the Tortured Poets Department, some of which are My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys, So Long, But Daddy I Love Him, I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can), and London Florida.
