Salman Khan's latest release Tubelight has not only disappointed the critics but the box office as well. The film which released on Ramazan weekend before Eid failed to create any big milestone on the festive occasion. In four days, including the Eid day collections, the film has minted a decent total of Rs 83.86 crore but failed to break Salman's previous box office records.
#Tubelight Fri 21.15 cr, Sat 21.17 cr, Sun 22.45 cr, Mon 19.09 cr [Eid]. Total: ₹ 83.86 cr. India biz.— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) June 27, 2017
#Tubelight has underperformed on Eid... Generally, Salman films set new records/do roaring biz on Eid, but it's an exception this time...— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) June 27, 2017
Salman Khan starters usually do humongous business between Rs 25 to 30 crore on a single day, however, Tubelight has not yet managed to touch the later 20s figure, even on the expected day of Eid.
What's surprising is that #Tubelight hasn't crossed ₹ 30 cr *on a single day* till now... Not on Sun... Not even on Mon [Eid holiday]...— taran adarsh (@taran_adarsh) June 27, 2017
Film's producers and makers expected a good turn around on Eid, but Tubelight underperformed. However, the film can't be called a disappointment as it is on its way to touch Rs 100 crore mark within a week of its release. Although, in comparison to Salman's previous Eid release, Tubelight received the lowest first-day opening with just over Rs 21 crore.
Directed by Kabir Khan, Tubelight is an official remake of Hollywood project Little Boy. The film also features Zhu Zhu, Matin Rey Tangu and late actor Om Puri in key roles.
