Vijay Sethupathi is one of the most talented names in Indian cinema. He is currently appearing in Maharaja, where he is seen playing the titular role. Since its release, the film has received widespread acclaim from the audience and critics alike. As per the latest update, the film has successfully surpassed Rs 100 crore at the box-office, cementing it as one of the biggest South Indian releases this year. As per the latest reports, Maharaja has become the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year, dethroning Aranmanai 4, a Sundar C directorial. According to the information given, the domestic collection of the film is reported to be around Rs 70 crore. In Tamil Nadu, the film is slightly behind Aranmanai 4, which recorded a collection of Rs 60.23 crore, while Maharaja is currently at Rs 55.49 crore. In the Telugu market, the Vijay Sethupathu-starrer collected an impressive Rs 14.61 crore, making it the highest-grossing Kollywood release of 2024.
At the global box-office, the film was able to amass Rs 24.25 crore. So, after combining this figure with the gross domestic total of Rs 82.83 crore earned by Maharaja, the film has collected a total of Rs 107.08 crore at the box-office.
Maharaja is directed as well as written by Nithilan Swaminathan and had its theatrical release on June 14. The cast of the film includes Vijay Sethupathi in the titular role, along with names like Mamta Mohandas, Anurag Kashyap, Sachana Namidass, Natarajan Subramaniam, Abhirami among many others. The film is produced by Sudhan Sundaram and Jagadish Palanisamy under the banner of Passion Studios, The Route and Think Studios. The music in the film is composed by B Ajaneesh Loknath, while the cinematographer is Dinesh Purushothaman and Philomin Raj has done the editing. It was made on a budget of Rs 20 crore. It is to be noted that Maharaja emerged a commercial success, despite the release of Prabhas starrer Kalki 2898 AD, which is currently dominating the box-office across the country.
