Was Performing My Duty According to the Rule Book: Nihalani on HC Order Over 'Udta Punjab'
Post Court order, Nihalani stated, “It’s a win of democracy. I congratulate the producer of the film."

While Bombay High Court’s verdict on clearing ‘Udta Punjab’ is being considered as a landmark order which upholds creative freedom of filmmakers, CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani, under whom the board refuse to certify the film says he has not seen the court order yet.

Welcoming the court order, Nihalani decided not to delve in the matter much. “I respect the court’s order, I will not speak further on the matter.” Anurag Kashyap, whose production house Phantom Films is a co-producer of the film, had accused Nihalani of bullying and purposely withholding certification of the film few days back.

Post Court order, Nihalani stated, “It’s a win of democracy. I congratulate the producer of the film. I was performing my duty according to the rule book.”

The CBFC had initially asked the makers of the film to make 89 cuts in the film and even withheld the certification. The makers then approached High Court, which slammed CBFC and cleared the film with only one cut and two changes.
