Was Queen Of Tears Originally Planned For A Sad Ending? Fans Think So
While viewers expressed relief that the ending was not as tragic as expected, some have been buzzing with speculation that the show's original plan was to end on a much sad note.

The much talked about tvN drama Queen of Tears recently made history with its final episode aired on April 28. It achieved the highest viewership rating ever recorded by the network. Despite this milestone, the conclusion of the series has sparked a range of reactions from viewers, particularly regarding its handling of the lead couple’s relationship and the decision to focus on a potentially tragic outcome. The drama, which stars Kim Soo Hyun as Baek Hyun Woo and Kim Ji Won as Hong Hae In, shows Hae In’s character to be terminally ill. However, the finale took a surprising turn by showing a shot of the couple’s future together, suggesting that they were able to enjoy a long life together before Hae In’s eventual passing.

While many viewers expressed relief that the ending was not as tragic as expected, some online communities have been buzzing with speculation that the show’s original plan was to end on a much sad note. Alleged leaked images of an alternate ending, in which Hae In dies in 2034, have fueled these rumours.

Additionally, some fans have also pointed out that the finale only showed the couple’s daughter at a young age, raising questions about the decision to omit scenes of her growing up or of the couple in their later years. This has led to speculation that the production team may have filmed two different endings and ultimately opted for the more uplifting one.

This speculation is further fueled by the fact that the show’s writer, Park Ji Eun, is rumoured to have considered multiple endings for her previous drama, Crash Landing on You.

The possibility of an alternative ending has divided fans, with some believing that a sadder conclusion would have been more impactful, while others are relieved by the happier ending that was ultimately chosen.

The drama, which premiered its first episode on March 9 this year was co-directed by Jang Young-woo and Kim Hee-won and is also available for streaming on Netflix in certain regions.
