Released on Netflix on June 21, 2024, the film features a talented cast that included Jaideep Ahlawat, Shalini Pandey and Sharvari. It is based on the Maharaj Libel Case of 1862, inspired by Saurabh Shah’s novel. In the movie, Junaid portrays Karsandas Mulji, a character whose story deeply resonated with him.
In an interview with ANI, Junaid shared his admiration for Karsandas Mulji’s journey and said, “He was a real person who in 1862 was talking about those things which even today are happening. It happens in society today. And it happens in every society. And at that time he was fighting about it. When we didn’t have that much knowledge. So I found the character and the story very inspirational. That there is a man who had so much understanding back then.”
Junaid also discussed what drew him to the script of Maharaj, revealing that he has been auditioning since 2017. He expressed his appreciation for the story when director Siddharth P Malhotra first approached him for the film.

The directorpraised Junaid’s talent, highlighting a significant moment in Maharaj: an eight-minute monologue that was eventually shortened to six minutes. “He rehearsed it so well. He understood the pauses and the different tones needed to address various characters in the speech,” Siddharth P Malhotra said.
Regarding his future projects, Junaid Khan is reportedly preparing for an untitled film alongside Khushi Kapoor. He is also set to collaborate with Sai Pallavi.
