When Amitabh Bachchan 'Couldn't Sleep For Two Nights' After Aishwarya Rai's Accident: 'She Suffered...'

Aishwarya Rai, Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar were shooting for Khakee near Nashik in 2003. It was during this shoot that a terrifying accident involving Aishwarya occurred, leaving the entire cast and crew shaken. A stuntman lost control, driving too fast and skidding, resulting in the car ramming into Aishwarya’s chair. Unable to move quickly enough, Aishwarya and her co-star, Tushar Kapoor, were caught off guard by the speeding vehicle. The situation was so critical that Akshay Kumar had to step in, pulling the car away and extricating Aishwarya, who was then rushed to the hospital.

Amitabh Bachchan, who would later become Aishwarya’s father-in-law after she married his son Abhishek Bachchan, was deeply upset with the media’s portrayal of her accident. The press downplayed her injury, calling it trivial, which struck a nerve with Bachchan. During a chat with Rediff, Amitabh spoke out about the incident, talking about the gravity of the situation and expressing his concern for Aishwarya’s well-being during that traumatic event.

“I asked Aishwarya’s mother if she wanted to take her daughter back to Mumbai. We organised Anil Ambani’s private plane. Since there is no night landing facility in Nashik, we had to take permission from Delhi to land the plane at the military base which is 45 minutes away from the hospital. The seats had to be removed from the aircraft. And everyone is brushing it off as a small incident blown out of proportion,” an upset Amitabh Bachchan had rued.

He had also opened up on how the accident and Aishwarya’s wounds had left a deep impact on his mind. “For two nights I couldn’t sleep. To see this happen in front of my eyes! Her back was lacerated with cactus thorns. The bone in the rear portion of her feet is broken. She suffered severe cuts. And her injury was reported as trivial,” Amitabh Bachchan had said.

Aishwarya Rai married Abhishek Bachchan on April 20, 2007, in a grand ceremony, and became the “Bachchan Bahu.” Aishwarya and Abhishek have a daughter named Aaradhya Bachchan. For a while now, Aishwarya Rai has been spotted solo or with her daughter. This has led to rumours that a Aishwarya Rai Abhishek Bachchan divorce might be on the horizon. Neither Aishwarya, nor Abhishek have commented on it. The Bachchan family has also not made any official comments on the matter.
