Bollywood actor Deepak Tijori celebrated his 63rd birthday on August 28. He may not have achieved much success as a lead actor in his career, but he shot to popularity playing important supporting roles, generally the best friend of the protagonist. The 1990 cult film Aashiqui made him hugely popular and he remained the first choice of the archetypal hero’s best friend throughout the 90s. He also directed a few films in the 2000s like Oops and Tom, Dick and Harry, but none of them worked. In fact, it comes as a surprise that a personal turmoil in his life made more news than his career. Deepak Tijori spent a blissful 20 years of his life with wife Shivani Taneja, only to find out that she was not his wife legally.

Deepak Tijori and Shivani Taneja have been at odds for several years, with frequent disputes between them. During this time, Shivani filed for divorce from Deepak. During the proceedings, it came to light that Shivani was not legally married to Deepak, as she was already married to someone else. An investigation by Deepak’s lawyer revealed that Shivani’s first marriage was still legally valid and that she had never divorced her first husband. Deepak was stunned by this discovery, realising that the woman he had lived with for 20 years, believing her to be his wife, was not legally his wife.

At that time, Deepak had no home or resources to support him. He also faced the burden of the divorce and maintenance claims filed by Shivani. Reports suggest that Shivani restricted him to using only one room in her house and instructed the servants not to provide him with food or clean his room. These circumstances led to significant mental harassment for Deepak, forcing him to move out and stay in a PG or at a friend’s place during that period.

While Deepak Tijori has lamented over the same in several interviews, Shivani has also kept her side of the story in front of the media and fans. According to her, she had confided in Deepak that her first marriage was a mistake and that she had not ended it legally. She claimed that Deepak spent years with her, while being aware of the situation but was trying to defame her by saying that she had no idea.
