While the trend nowadays has been of larger-than-life masala action films with exquisite sets, foreign locales and over-the-top action, Aamir Khan recently made a film that was deeply rooted in reality. Set in a rural backdrop with lesser-known actors, the film was high on content and some terrific performances. As you might have guessed, we are talking about the Kiran Rao directorial, Laapata Ladies, which has been widely appreciated from all quarters. Among the many new breed of actors that showcased their talent in the films, is Bhaskar Jha who made his debut with the film.
Bhaskar Jha played the negative role of an abusive husband in the film and although his screen time was lesser compared to the other protagonists, he left a lasting impression on the audience. In a recent interview, Bhaskar said that he is originally from Madhubani in Bihar but he did his primary education in West Bengal.
“In 2002, we relocated to Delhi. In 2007, I completed an English Honors degree from Rajdhani College, where I began participating in theatre. After graduating, I enrolled in a course in radio and television journalism. While continuing my work in theatre, I also worked with various content writing companies and the regional Doordarshan channel,” Bhaskar said.
During his stay in Delhi, he taught acting in schools and colleges to earn a living. He also said that he kept going to workshops in Mumbai with Rupesh Tillu and Ashwath Bhatt. Talking about how he got the film, he said that one of his friends Shivam Gupta recommended his name to Romil Modi and Ram Rawat who were the casting directors of Laapata Ladies.
Discussing the film’s success, he said it was incredible. “People are recognizing me, so the response has been great. Every artist seeks appreciation, and I’m receiving it generously from both the public and industry professionals. I’m also getting offers for other projects, so let’s see what happens next,” he said.
