Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, is one of the most anticipated films of the actor’s career. Fans are eagerly awaiting any updates on the film as the shoot is ongoing in full swing in Mumbai’s Film City with sets constructed in Josh Maidan and Helipad. Amid this anticipation, new reports claim that Yash will begin shooting in December this year and Sunny Deol will join in 2025.
A source told Pinkvilla, “Yash has undergone several look tests for his character in Ramayana and is all set to start shooting in December 2024. He moves on to the epic after completing a major chunk of his next, the Geethu Mohandas-directed Toxic. He is excited to explore one of the most complex characters from Ramayana.” Yash will play Ravana in the film.
The source added, “Sunny Deol takes up Ramayana after finishing his work on Border 2. Much like Ranbir, Sunny Deol has also allotted bulk dates to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra to shoot for his part in the Ramayana Franchise.” Sunny Deol will be seen as Hanuman in the film.
The source also mentioned that Ranbir Kapoor has nearly finished his shoot and will film with Yash and Sunny later. “He had allotted bulk dates to Nitesh Tiwari and Namit Malhotra to play the part of Lord Ram, and the duo have been extremely professional to wrap up the shoot ahead of schedule,” the source said.
Ranbir Kapoor will be playing the role of Ram in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana, whereas Sai Pallavi will be seen essaying the role of Sita. Coincidentally, Arun Govil, who played Lord Ram in Sagar’s Ramayan, is also in the film. The actor will be seen playing the role of King Dasharatha. Lara Dutta will also essay the character of Kaikeyi.
Several reports previously suggested that Kunal Kapoor has joined the stellar star cast, and begun preparing for the film. A source while speaking to Pinkvilla confirmed that Kunal has been busy doing rehearsals and costume trials for Ramayana. However, the makers have kept details about Kunal’s character under wraps. Reportedly, the makers have also roped in Sunny Deol for the role of Hanuman. However, there is no official confirmation regarding this.
Previously, a source close to the film told Bollywood Hungama that it is being made on a whopping budget of Rs 835 crore. “Ramayana is not just a film but an emotion and the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make it a global spectacle. The USD 100 Million ( ₹835 crore) budget is just for Ramayana: Part One. He (Namit Malhotra) plans to expand this further as the franchise grows. The idea is to take the audience on a visual treat with Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram,” the source said.
The insider further argued that Ramayana needs at least 600 days of post-production work and with this movie, the makers plan to take Indian Cinema to a global level. Ramayana’s release date has not been announced as of now. However, it is rumoured to hit theatres in 2026.
