The Indian women’s team suffered defeat once again in the second ODI against Australia which took place at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai. The Australian side managed to set a target of 259 thanks to Phoebe Litchfield and Elysse Perry’s half-centuries in the first innings.
Speaking in the post-match presentation, the Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur said, “We could have shown some more awareness.” She also added there were a lot of positives which could be taken from their performance yesterday. Harmanpreet said,” I think we bowled well today, we planned about picking wickets.”

The captain was also happy with India’s bowling efforts where they managed to restrict Australia to a score under 300. However, she was also critical of her side’s fielding. She referring to their dropped catches added,” I think that is part of a game. We have been playing in the heat and playing a lot of cricket, so we need to bounce back, that’s important.” There were a total of seven dropped catches in the match which could have made the difference in the outcome in this match.
The skipper also appreciated the knock by Richa Ghosh who managed to put in a shift by scoring 96 runs where she scored 13 boundaries. Ghosh’s knock also allowed India to take the game deep where India came up short in the end by just three runs.
Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma also managed to get some decent starts during their innings but were not able to capitalise. It was the partnership between Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues where the latter missed out on her half-century.
During the first innings, India was also forced to make a concussion substitute as Sneh Rana was involved in a collision with Pooja Vastrakar. While the latter got up, Rana was not able to do the same as she walked off the pitch with an ice pack on her head. The BCCI has confirmed that Sneh Rana has been taken for scans and will not take any part in the ODI following the assessment of the injury.

Australia were able to get back in the game after Annabel Sutherland managed to get the big wicket of Richa Ghosh who managed to find the fielder at the cover region to miss out on her maiden century in ODI cricket. Sutherland finished with three wickets while giving away 47 runs in her nine overs in the innings.
Considering how close India came to chasing down the target, they will aim to bounce back with a win as Harmanpreet Kaur’s side will go up against Alyssa Healy’s Australia once again in the final ODI at Wankhede on January 2, 2024, followed by a three-match T20I series which will take place in Navi Mumbai.
