Mumbai: Prohibitory Orders Imposed Till Jan 18; Flying of Drones, Gliders Banned for 30 Days
Regular preventive action under Section 144 CrPC comes days ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations next week, so as to curb "terrorist and anti-national elements" using drones and paragliders

Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued regular preventive orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure in all areas of its jurisdiction till January 18, 2024. This has been done to curb “terrorist and anti-national elements” making use of objects such as drones and paragliders, officials said.

The order comes days ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations next week, which draw large crowds across the city and from outside. According to the order, it is likely that terrorist or anti-national elements might make use of drones, remote-controlled micro light aircraft, paragliders to target VVIPs and endanger the life of the public at large, destroy public property and disturb law and order in the metropolis.

Police said the order puts a ban on the flying of these objects except for aerial surveillance by cops or under specific permission in writing by the deputy commissioner of police (operations). While the prohibitory orders are in place for 30 days, these flying objects cannot be used over the city, police added.
