Nutan's Granddaughter Pranutan Bhal Set To Make Her Hollywood Debut With Coco & Nut

Pranutan Bahl, the granddaughter of late legendary Indian actor Nutan and the daughter of Mohnish Bahl, is gearing up for her Hollywood introduction in the film Coco & Nut, alongside American actor-filmmaker Rahsaan Noor. Recognised for her roles in Notebook and Helmet, Pranutan conveyed her enthusiasm about venturing into international cinema with this “spirit-lifting romance”.

Directed by Noor, the movie centers around a determined young woman tackling the complexities of salvaging her marriage, finding unexpected support from her former college sweetheart, portrayed by Noor. The filming is scheduled to take place in Chicago from June to July, with the production presented in both English and Hindi. The project boasts a diverse cast and crew, bringing together talents from both the United States and India.

The film’s official log line teases a narrative that is relatable and uplifting, promising an emotional rollercoaster that will leave audiences with a smile on their faces. Expressing her excitement, Pranutan took her Instagram handle and posted a news piece announcing her debut. She penned, “Gratitude. My first international feature film.. my Hollywood debut..such a special feeling..feels surreal. Thank you to everyone who made it happen.. Here’s to Coco & Nut.”

Pranutan’s fans were quick to react to her update with her co-star Noor commenting, “And so it begins…”

Meanwhile, in a statement, the actress said, “I’ve always wanted to do a romantic drama. Coco & Nut is a beautiful story in which my character, Nut, journeys through a transformative phase in her life. I’m so grateful that I would make my international debut with a movie like that.”

Speaking about the film, Rahsaan Noor said that he is looking forward to bringing out a love story which people from all across the world can relate to. “I grew up like so many other second generation South Asian Americans – with a love for our movies from the motherland. That’s why we’re making Coco & Nut in English and in Hindi,” he said. The man behind the lens added, “It’s a privilege to be working with Pranutan on this film. From the moment I saw her in Notebook, I was taken by her talent and knew that I had to work with her one day.”

Pranutan made her Bollywood debut with Notebook in 2019 and further graced the silver screen with Helmet in 2022. She is the daughter of Mohnish Bahl and Ekta Sohini. Rahsaan, on the other hand, is known for his critically acclaimed work in the Bengali film industry.

With expectations building up over Coco & Nut, audiences can mark their calendars for 2025 when this beautiful story of love and self-discovery is likely to hit theatres.
