Priyanka Chopra Felt She 'Let Women Down' After Female-Led Films Failed, Says 'There Is Pressure...'
Priyanka Chopra opened up about working in female-centric films and facing failure at the box office.

Priyanka Chopra opened up about her female-centric films not working at the box office and its impact on her. The actress, on Sunday, sat down for a masterclass with Bhumi Pednekar as a part of the Jio MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai. Speaking with Bhumi and the audience present in the room, Priyanka opened up about working in a female-led project and admitted that initially she would feel like she has let down women when her woman-centric film wouldn’t work.

“There’s a lot of pressure when you have a female-led film, because we have so few, so when they don’t do well you feel the collective failure on behalf of all women,” Priyanka said, as reported by Deadline. “I used to feel like I’ve taken women a few steps back, I’ve let women-kind down, because there are so few of us that get the opportunity to do this,” she added. Priyanka explained that now, she tackles such failures with a better appraoch.

“But I’ve learned to pivot my mind around that – it’s not personal. When a movie works, it works because it has something to say. And if it doesn’t work, it didn’t say what it needed to say,” she said.

Priyanka also revealed that she was told actresses work in female-centric films only when they are nearing the end of their careers. Speaking about signing Fashion shortly after the success of Krrish, Priyanka revealed, “I signed on for the film right after Krrish, and was told that actresses only do female-oriented projects at the end of their careers so they can win a National Award.”

Today, Priyanka has headlines a number of female-centric movies. These include Mary Kom, Saat Khoon Maaf and Jai Gangaajal.

For the session, Priyanka opted for a gorgeous white printed saree. Besides attending the masterclass, Priyanka was also a part of the opening night ceremony of the Jio MAMI Film Festival.
