The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) will implement a six-hour-long traffic blockade on the Mumbai-bound corridor of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway on Thursday for the Panvel-Karjat double-line railway project, a move which is likely to affect the vehicular movement in on the busy route.
The roadblock will be implemented from 11 am to 5 pm on November 9, a release by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) stated.
As per the department, The roadblock has been mainly undertaken for launching girders.
During the traffic block, light and heavy vehicles won’t be allowed to ply on the Mumbai-bound carriageway at Chikhale near Kalamboli where a Rail Over Bridge (ROB) is being erected as part of the railway project, an MRVC official told PTI.
Motorists travelling towards Mumbai can exit on the old Mumbai-Pune Highway (MH-48) at Khopoli and Panvel, the release said.
Last month, the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) executed an hour-long roadblock on the busy Mumbai-Pune Expressway.
At the time, MSRDC said these traffic blocks were necessitated by the ongoing installation of gantries at various points along the 95-km-long expressway as part of the Highway Management System.
The Mumbai-Pune Expressway is India’s first access-controlled highway. The 6-lane expressway was fully operationalized in 2002 with toll collection at five plazas, of which Khalapur and Talegaon serve as primary locations.
