Koffee With Karan Season 8: Karan Johar revealed that he had a fight with Kareena Kapoor after she asked 'too much money' for Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kal Ho Naa Ho.

Koffee With Karan Season 8: On the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, Karan Johar recalled his ugly spat with Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor after she asked for “too much money” for doing Kal Ho Naa Ho, which eventually went to Preity Zinta. On the episode, which saw Sara Ali Khan and Ananya Panday as guests, Karan revealed that he and Kareena did not speak to each other for one and a half years.

Why Karan Johar and Kareena Kapoor had a fallout

Karan, in his autobiography named An Unsuitable Boy, made several revelations including this particular phase of his friendship graph with Kareena. As revealed in the autobiography, Karan had approached Kareena for his production Kal Ho Naa Ho before casting Preity as Naina Catherine Kapur.

He revealed that Kareena had asked for “too much money,” almost an equal amount to what Shah Rukh was being paid for the movie, which led to an ugly fallout between them.

“My first problem was with Kareena. She asked for too much money and we had some kind of a fallout at that time. Mujhse Dosti Karoge! had just released, directed by Kunal Kohli. She said, Aditya Chopra’s assistant Kunal Kohli has made this flop, so Karan Johar’s assistant, Nikhil Advani is not to be trusted either,” Karan wrote in his book.

“The weekend of Mujhse Dosti Karoge’s release, I offered her Kal Ho Naa Ho, and she asked for the same (amount of) money that Shah Rukh Khan was getting. I said, ‘Sorry’. I was very hurt. I told my father, ‘Leave that negotiation room’ and I called her. She didn’t take my call, and I said, ‘We’re not taking her.’ And signed Preity Zinta instead,” he further revealed in his autobiography.

The fight between them ended when Karan’s father Yash Johar was diagnosed with cancer and was undergoing treatment for the same. After learning about Karan’s father, Kareena got very emotional and apologised to him on phone for not being in touch. The two patched up and never looked back since then.

They have since worked together in several movies including Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Gori Tere Pyaar Mein, Bombay Talkies, Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, We Are Family, Kurbaan and Good Newwz.
