Beskitas React to Wout Weghorst's Manchester United Link-up, Call Exit-Clause Reports 'Fictitious'
It is believed that package might eventually force Besiktas to terminate Weghorst's contract and allow the former Burnley striker to join Manchester United.

Besiktas striker Wout Weghorst recently became a big talking point on the transfer market after Manchester United reportedly expressed their desire to sign the 30-year-old as Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement. Besiktas has now finally opened up on the matter. The Turkish football club, in their official statement, described that Weghorst’s transfer talks are all ‘fictitious.’ The statement also categorically claimed there is no exit clause in Weghorst’s current contract. “The claim that there is an exit clause in our football player’s contract, stating that his contract can be terminated with a compensation of 2.5 million Euros in case of an offer from the Premier League, is fictitious.

However, the news that the player in question will leave the team on Tuesday is completely untrue. The initiative regarding Wout Weghorst belongs entirely to Beşiktaş. If there is a development on this issue, the information will be shared,” the statement read.

Manchester United, on the other hand, are reportedly trying to table a counter offer in order to sign Wout Weghorst. A report published by Manchester Evening News claims that the Old Trafford-based outfit are now working on a compensation package. It is believed that package might eventually force Besiktas to terminate Weghorst’s contract and allow the former Burnley striker to join Manchester United.

Wout Weghorst had joined English football club Burnley in January 2022. Weghorst averaged a goal every other game in the Bundesliga for Wolfsburg. However, his stint in England did not turn out to be quite fruitful. Weghorst could only find the back of the net twice while representing Burnley. In July 2022, Weghorst signed for Besiktas on loan.

Wout Weghorst has so far scored 9 goals in 18 matches for the Turkish side. In international circuit, the 30-year-old has five goals to his name in 19 matches.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have not yet been able to find Cristiano Ronaldo’s replacement. The Portuguese striker left the club by mutual consent following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan. Ronaldo’s contract was officially terminated ahead of Portugal’s FIFA World Cup 2022 fixture. The Red Devils currently claim the fourth spot in the Premier League standings. After playing 17 matches, Erik ten Hag’s men have 35 points under their belt.
