Bihar CM Nitish Kumar 'Takes Back' Population Control Remark; BJP Says Resign, Don't Apologise
Nitish Kumar Latest Statement: Bihar CM Kumar on Wednesday said that the state leads in women development.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar apologised for his remark on population control and said he takes his statement back if it has given a wrong message.

Bihar CM Kumar on Wednesday said that the state leads in women development and added:  “I apologise for my statement, take back my statement if it has sent a wrong message.”

While talking about the importance of education among women in terms of population control, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on Tuesday gave a controversial description of how an educated woman can stop her husband from exercising restraint during an intercourse.

BJP MLAs protesting outside Bihar Vidhan Sabha, meanwhile, said that it does not want Nitish Kumar’s apology, but his resignation. NCW chief Rekha Sharma also said that only an apology is not enough, Bihar Speaker should take step and expunge the statement instead.

Kumar’s comment raised a storm on Tuesday with the opposition BJP tearing into him. Emphasising the importance of education among women to control the population, Kumar put forward a vivid description in the assembly of how an educated woman can restrain her husband during sexual intercourse.

“The husband’s acts led to more births. However, with education, a woman knows how to restrain him… this is the reason the numbers (of births) are coming down,” he said in a rustic style. “You, journalists also understand it well. Earlier it (fertility rate) was 4.3, but it has now reached 2.9. And, soon we will reach 2,” he added.

The opposition BJP charged Kumar with “bringing shame” to the state’s women by speaking of the procreation process in detail.
