Pakistan’s chances are bleakest as they need to defeat England by more than 280 runs or chase the target in less than 5 overs.

Pakistan started their World Cup 2023 campaign on a high. Back-to-back victories, against The Netherlands and Sri Lanka, kept their ‘favourite’ status intact but the defeat to India in Ahmedabad seemed like hitting them mentally. After losing to arch-rivals by 7 wickets, it took them weeks to get back on the winning ways. They were beaten by Afghanistan before closely losing to South Africa. They had little hope after defeating New Zealand in a rain-curtailed affair but the Black Caps went ahead in the race to semis after defeating Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s chances are bleakest as they need to defeat England by more than 280 runs or chase the target in less than 5 overs. The equation doesn’t look achievable which prompted former India opener Virender Sehwag to troll the men in green on social media.

Taking to Instagram, the former cricketer shared a picture text, reading, “Bye Bye Pakistan.”

The caption of the post read, “Pakistan Zindabhaag! Bas yahin tak tha jo tha. Hope you enjoyed the biryani and the hospitality. Have a safe flight back home. Bye Bye Pakistan!”

But skipper Babar Azam doesn’t feel it’s all over for Pakistan. Addressing the press conference on the eve of their last group-stage game against England, he said the team will look to finish on a good note.

“The tournament isn’t over yet. We have a game left and we’ll look to end the tournament on a good note,” Babar said in the presser.

The Pakistan skipper further mentioned that their 1-wicket loss to South Africa affected their campaign the most.

“I think, it was the South Africa game that hurt us. Also, we would have won against Afghanistan. We lost to them and hence we are here at the moment,” Babar said.

The leader of the men in green admitted that the unit committed some mistakes in the tournament but they are looking to learn from it.

“We will try to learn from this, because the faster you learn from big events you know where you have made mistakes. I have seen that the margin of error is very low here. Because when you give even a little room to any team, they take the match from you.

“This is the speciality of the World Cup. It’s a high-intensity game. You have a match against every team, so they are high-intensity games. So, I think the whole team should learn from the mistakes,” he added.
