'History Made with Path-breaking Move': Modi Congratulates Indians on Passage of Women's Reservation Bill

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said that a new history was made on September 20 and 21 when the Women’s Reservation Bill was passed in Parliament. “It’s our fortune that people gave us a chance to do so,” the prime minister said.

PM Modi, while addressing women workers at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, congratulated “every woman in the country” for the Women Reservation Bill.

“This Bill is for naya Bharat,” he added.

“Today, I congratulate all women of the country. Yesterday and the day before, we witnessed the making of a new history. It is our fortune that crores of people gave us the opportunity to create that history,” he said.

PM Modi was greeted by a large number of women, including beneficiaries of several government schemes, present at the party office.

He also expressed gratitude to all political parties for their support of the Bill in the Parliament. “There were many obstacles in the way of this Women’s Reservation Bill. But When intentions are pure and there is transparency in attempts, then we witness results overcoming all obstacles. It is a record in itself that this bill got so much support in Parliament. I thank all political parties and MPs for it,” he said.

The Prime minister further stated that the country waited for decades for the Women Reservation Bill and they removed every hurdle that came in the way of it.

‘Fulfilled Every Guarantee Given to Women’

PM Modi asserted that the BJP was committed to ‘Nari Shakti’ and that it has “fulfilled every guarantee given to women”.

BJP president J P Nadda and women Union ministers, including Nirmala Sitharaman and Smriti Irani, and other party leaders also graced the occasion with their presence.
