A Bengaluru couple, whose holiday to Port Blair was allegedly marred when their checked luggage arrived two days later, took legal action against IndiGo airlines. A city consumer court has now ruled in their favour and ordered them to compensate them with Rs 70,000 for the inconvenience caused.
In late 2021, Surabhi Srinivas and her husband Bola Vedvyas Shenoy, residents of Byappanahalli, decided to embark on a holiday to Port Blair in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
Booking their tickets with IndiGo for the journey from Bengaluru to Port Blair, the two arrived at their destination on November 1, 2021. However, their checked luggage, containing essential items such as clothes, medicines, and ferry tickets for boat rides in the Andamans, failed to reach Port Blair.
Promptly lodging a complaint with IndiGo and registering a Property Irregularity Report, the couple was assured by the airline’s ground crew that their missing bag would be delivered the following day.
The bags, however, reached the two two days later on November 3. By that time, half of their trip was over. Stranded, the couple even bought basic items to get passed the trip.
Alleging that IndiGo representatives were aware that their luggage had not been loaded onto the aircraft at Bengaluru airport but failed to disclose this information, the couple issued a legal notice to InterGlobe Aviation Limited, the operators of IndiGo airline, on November 18.
After one year, the two filed a complaint against the airline with Bengaluru Urban 3rd Additional District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Shantinagar, seeking compensation for the disruption of their holiday. Later, they won it.
