While Pandya enjoyed a couple of memorable seasons with the new entrants, MI continued their search for a sixth title. And they have now gone three years without winning the IPL trophy – their longest title drought since becoming the champions for the first time in 2013.
MI reached a new high when they won back-to-back titles in 2019 and 20202 but the next two seasons saw them failing to qualify for the playoffs. Last season was an improvement as they finished fifth to make it to the eliminator and beat Lucknow Super Giants before losing to GT in the second qualifier.
Ahead of the auction, MI, the five-time IPL winners, released/traded as many as 12 players including Jofra Archer and Cameron Green (traded to Royal Challengers Bangalore).
