Michael Vaughan Pokes Fun at Wasim Jaffer After India’s Loss In World Cup Final
Wasim Jaffer chose to stay silent and gave no reply to Vaughan. The post caught the attention of many Indian fans, who dropped their reactions in the comment section.

Former English captain Michael Vaughan teased Wasim Jaffer with a sarcastic message after India suffered a defeat to Australia in the final of the ICC ODI World Cup. Both cricket pundits had been engaged in social media banter since the beginning of the multi-nation tournament. They were often seen pulling each other’s legs after India or England did something significant during the campaign. While Vaughan’s team suffered an early exit from the league stage, India remained in contention to secure the coveted title till the last day. However, the Men in Blue failed to get past the ultimate hurdle. They had to surrender in front of a gritty Australia, who took home their record-extending sixth World Cup trophy.

After Australia almost reached the victory line, Michael Vaughan dropped a post on X. Mentioning Wasim Jaffer, the 49-year-old wrote, “Evening, Jaffer. All ok?” Like the rest of the nation, Jaffer was certainly disheartened with India’s defeat in the final. But he chose to stay silent and gave no reply to Vaughan. The post caught the attention of many Indian fans, who dropped their reactions in the comment section.

In a sarcastic dig, one fan made sure to remind Michael Vaughan of England’s humiliating elimination even before the knockout stage. “Where is your team, Vaughan?” the person asked.

Keeping aside the outcome of the final, a fan backed the Men in Blue, saying, “They did their best, they were unbeaten till today. They don’t really deserve any negative comments. Please support your Team India.”

An Indian supporter simply commented, “We were defeated in the finals and did not exit from the group stage.”

More than 90 thousand fans marked their presence at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday with the hope of seeing India claim their third ODI World Cup title. Australian captain Pat Cummins won the toss and sent the hosts to bat first, considering the dry nature of the surface. Like the previous games, Rohit pulled off a blazing start to India’s innings. But his opening partner Shubman Gill could not stay longer and returned with a single-digit score.

Rohit then joined hands with Virat Kohli. The veteran batters were going well until Glenn Maxwell dismissed Rohit for 47. Shreyas Iyer also returned early to the pavilion. That’s when Kohli and KL Rahul took over the charge and stitched a 67-run partnership. Riding on their contributions, India managed to post 240 runs on the board.

The Indian pacers sparked the hope for a comeback, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami getting rid of Australia’s three top-order batters during the powerplay. The hosts were desperate to take advantage of the early collapse. But Travis Head and Marnus Labuschagne didn’t let that happen. They took time to settle and kept the scoreboard ticking with singles and occasional boundaries. Their plan clicked well as Australia reached the target in 43 overs, with Head notching a match-winning century.
