Former Delhi captains Dhruv Shorey and Nitish Rana have approached DDCA for a no-objection certificate (NOC) and want to move base for the upcoming domestic season. News18 CricketNext has reliably learnt that they have formally approached the association but are yet to get an answer.
Both players were exploring options after the previous domestic season ended. They were displeased with the direction their career was taking and had formally made their intention to move on clear.
Nitish Rana scored 11 and 6* in Delhi’s win over Mumbai in January in the Ranji Trophy. But he pulled himself out of the reckoning for the season’s last fixture against Hyderabad.
“Nitish Rana was exploring options after the last season ended. He wasn’t happy with the way he was dropped midway through last season and was on the lookout. He returned for the game against Mumbai and then made himself unavailable for the game against Hyderabad,” a source close to the developments told CricketNext.
After scoring 14 & 40 vs Maharashtra, and 0 vs Assam, he didn’t feature against Tamil Nadu, Saurashtra and Andhra.
Meanwhile, Dhruv Shorey is eager to play white ball cricket but has seen his chances dwindle while remaining crucial in the longer format.
Shorey, 31, scored 135 runs in North Zone’s quarter-final win over North East in the Duleep Trophy but couldn’t reproduce his form in the semi-final, won by eventual champions South Zone.
“With regards to Dhruv, he was a red-ball asset for Delhi but wasn’t happy with opportunities in shorter formats. He still wants to play white ball cricket,” said the source.
Dhruv Shorey last appeared in the shorter format in the Vijay Hazare Trophy with scores of 41, 9, 43, 1 and 10 runs but has been in and out of plans for the selectors.
DDCA recently finalised the team for the Buchi Babu tournament and both Nitish and Dhruv were in their leadership plans. The experienced pair, however, have asked for a NOC a day before the team was set to leave for the multi-day tournament.
News18 CricketNext reached out to both Shorey and Rana for comment but both were unavailable.
