Players SRH Likely to Release/Retain: The IPL 2024 mini-auction is around the corner as all the franchises have a tough task ahead of them with the retention of players. The deadline for player retention is November 26 and the franchise’s team management has to put out their paper and pen to prepare a list of players they have to keep next season.
Meanwhile, one team won’t have to think about it much – Sunrisers Hyderabad – The Orange Army finished last on the points table last season and won just four matches out of 14 matches. SRH invested big money in several players in the last IPL auction as they bought the likes of Harry Brook (INR 13.25 Crore) and Mayank Agarwal (INR 8.5 Crore) but it backfired big time for them.
After a forgettable last season, SRH have already made massive changes in their team management. Hyderabad have named New Zealand legend Daniel Vettori as their new head coach after parting ways with Brian Lara who was the head coach last season. South African Aiden Markram was named as their new captain after releasing Kane Williamson but it didn’t change their fortunes. They are expected to retain Markram but might look for another captain in the auction.
SRH last made the IPL playoffs in 2020 but have since endured forgettable seasons. They finished eighth twice in a row (2021 and 2022) before finishing at the bottom of the pile in the last season.
SRH are expected to retain the likes of Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mayank Makrande, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Rahul Tripathi but some of the big names might be shown the exit doors after their poor last season.
They will look to rebuild the squad in the mini-auction which will take place on December 19 in Dubai. SRH had to release some players to increase the purse for the auction.
It is expected that SRH might show the exit doors to the likes of Harry Brook, Mayank Agarwal and Adil Rashid.
