Royal Enfield is working round the clock to bring the next-generation Himalayan to market, and the Shotgun 650 will be on display soon at EICMA 2023 in Milan, Italy.
The Shotgun 650 was approved by the United States Environmental Protection Agency for 2024, according to a report last month. The bobber has gained the green light from the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), and a document showing the engine specifications and dimensions of the motorcycle has been released recently. The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will be a sibling model to the new Super Meteor 650 and will have more street bike ergonomics.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Dimensions
According to the leaked paper, the Shotgun 650 will be shorter than the Super Meteor 650 (2,170mm vs 2,260mm) and slimmer (820mm vs 890mm). Crucially, the wheelbase has been decreased by 35mm from 1,500mm to 1,465mm, however this may be altered by varying wheel sizes.
The Shotgun’s height has been increased from 1,105mm to 1,155mm. These distinctions are understandable given that the Super Meteor is intended to be a long and low cruiser, whilst the Shotgun will be more of a street bike. Although the leaked document does not define it, the Shotgun’s seat height will be higher than the Super Meteor’s low 740mm. More crucially, it should have more rear suspension travel than the Super Meteor, which now has 101mm.
The Shotgun will be powered by the same 648cc parallel twin engine as the Super Meteor, producing 47 bhp. Also, gearing and engine tune should be the same as well.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Design
Royal Enfield introduced the SG650 concept at the EICMA 2021, and the production version is expected to keep the same aesthetic elements. The Shotgun 650 could be available with both a split saddle and a single saddle. It will have twin exhausts, alloy wheels, dual channel anti-lock braking system (ABS), wide handlebars, and an analogue and digital instrument dashboard, as well as a Tripper navigation pod.
Royal Enfield Shotgun 650: Engine Specifications
The Continental GT 650, Super Meteor 650 and Interceptor 650 will all be powered by the same 650cc engine as the Shotgun 650. The power output, according to the leaked document, is 46 bhp. It is paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a slipper clutch. Though the torque value has not been published, it is estimated to be approximately 52Nm, similar to the other 650cc Royal Enfield motorcycles in the series.
The new-generation Himalayan 450, set to be released on November 1, 2023, is Royal Enfield’s next big budget launch in India. The Shotgun is expected to be released soon after the Himalayan.
