Services on Delhi Metro's Magenta Line Section Affected, Restoration Work Planned at Night
Many commuters took to Twitter to share the inconvenience they faced on account of the delay

Services on a section of the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line corridor have been affected for several hours since morning due to a case of attempted theft of signalling cable, the DMRC said on Wednesday.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation tweeted to alert commuters.

“Magenta Line update delay in services between Kalindi Kunj and Okhla Bird Sanctuary. Normal service on all other lines,” it tweeted in the morning.

Many commuters took to Twitter to share the inconvenience they faced on account of the delay.

“Since undertaking repair work on the affected section during operational hours would have resulted in stopping of all services in that section, it was decided that to avoid hardship to the passengers, trains would be allowed to operate with a restricted speed of 25 kmph during the entire day today,” a senior DMRC official said.

The restoration work is planned for the night after the last passenger service.

Access to the track will be provided to replace the cables damaged during the attempted theft, the DMRC said in a statement.

“Train services are affected between the Okhla Bird Sanctuary and Kalindi Kunj stations of Magenta Line (both up and down lines) from the start of services today due to a case of attempted cable theft on this section in the wee hours leading to the damage of signalling cables,” it said.

Replacement of cables is a time taking process that requires full access to the track without any train movement. Passengers are being informed regularly through announcements at stations and inside trains on the Magenta Line, the official said.

Updates are also being provided through social media, he said.
