SpiceJet Resumes Puducherry To Hyderabad And Bengaluru Flights After 3 Months
SpiceJet resumes Puducherry-Hyderabad and Puducherry-Bengaluru flights after a 3-month hiatus, while eyeing international expansion.

Flight services between Puducherry and Hyderabad, as well as Puducherry and Bengaluru, were resumed on Monday after a hiatus of nearly three months.

Spicejet, the sole operator serving these routes, had temporarily suspended its services from Puducherry to both destinations three months ago, citing operational challenges.

As per a report in The Hindu, on Monday, in accordance with the operator’s timetable, the flight from Hyderabad arrived in Puducherry at approximately 1 p.m. Subsequently, the same flight departed for Bengaluru and later returned to Puducherry before departing for Hyderabad in the evening.

“The services resumed after a break of three months. The passenger load to both Hyderabad and Bengaluru was reasonably good,” said an official at Puducherry Airport, as per The Hindu.

SpiceJet initiated its operations from Puducherry back in 2013 with the introduction of a direct flight connecting Puducherry and Bengaluru. However, just a year later, in 2014, the airline reportedly discontinued services on both routes due to visibility concerns.

SpiceJet later returned to the Puducherry airspace in 2017, resuming operations first to Hyderabad and subsequently to Bengaluru. However, during the peak of the pandemic, it suspended its services and only resumed operations in March 2022, before temporarily halting services once again three months ago.

In February of this year, the budget airline SpiceJet began its operations at the newly constructed Manohar International Airport in Mopa, Goa, through a phased rollout.

The official Twitter account of the New Goa Manohar International Airport, now known as “X,” shared photos of the inauguration of SpiceJet’s services at the Mopa airport. They marked this historic milestone with a splendid lamp-lighting ceremony and invited travellers to celebrate with them. The tweet read, “Celebrate with us as we inaugurate SpiceJet’s arrival at GOX airport with a grand lamp-lighting ceremony. Book your tickets now for safe, convenient, and comfortable journeys, and be a part of this historic moment.”

On the other hand, SpiceJet is on the verge of introducing international flight services between Agartala and Chittagong, Bangladesh, according to a senior minister’s announcement in the assembly.

According to PTI, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury previously disclosed that the launch of the international flight service from Agartala’s Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport to Chittagong is imminent and could commence “at any point of time.” Low-cost carrier SpiceJet has been awarded the contract to inaugurate the Agartala-Chittagong flight services under the UDAN scheme.
