V Chamundeswaranath is all set to replace outgoing Pragyan Ojha in the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) as the Indian Cricketers Association (ICA) representative.
Chamundeswaranath, popularly known as Chamundi, has played for Andhra in the domestic circuit and was also the manager of the Indian cricket team during the 2009 edition of T20 World Cup. The 64-year-old has also served in Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) junior selection committees in the past.
The results of e-voting of ICA Election 2023 were declared on their official website today and Chamundi got 317 out of the 545 total votes. 228 votes went towards his opponent Harvinder Singh, former India cricketer who was also competing for the ICA representative post.

After serving in the IPL GC for three years, former India cricketer Ojha vacated his seat and didn’t extend his tenure. While both Arun Singh Dhumal (chairman) and Avishek Dalmiya were re-elected in the GC at BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Goa last month, the ICA player representative position had to be decided via elections.
The notification of ICA election schedule was done on October 6 and the e-voting for the position was done from 10 am October 25 to 2 pm October 26. The results were finally declared by Shri A. K. Joti, Electoral Officer, BCCI on 6 pm October 26.
In the “know your candidate information sheets” circulated to all members on October 20, both Chamundi and Harvinder talked about their career and contributions to the game of cricket. Harvinder assured “the cricket fraternity to work in tandem with BCCI/ IPL for the benefit of the current and former cricketers”.
Chamundi too made a very confident pitch: “I am the best candidate for the position of ICA representative to the IPL Governing Council as I have lived breathed and played cricket from the time I was 14, and all my experiences since then have given me an edge and exposure to add more value and do more for further development of Cricket through IPL”.
The members put their weight behind Chamundi as nearly 60% of the total votes were in his favour and made him the third ICA player representative, after Surinder Khanna and Pragyan Ojha, in the IPL GC.
