One of the top bankers in the country, Surinder Chawla, who is presently serving as the Managing Director of Paytm Payments Bank, has recently made a major investment by purchasing one of the most expensive apartments in Mumbai and its price will definitely surprise you. According to a Moneycontrol report, the Paytm Payments Bank MD has purchased two luxurious duplex apartments, collectively spanning 3,488 square feet of carpet area. The apartment is located in one of the most luxurious towers ‘Sky Forest’ in Central Mumbai’s Lower Parel. As per the details available, the duplex mansion costs around Rs 20 crore.

Said to have been situated on one of the higher floors, the apartments include an exclusive area of 972 square feet, along with the generous carpet space. To aid the luxury lifestyle, the duplexes also come with four parking spaces. The adjacent apartments are said to be located on the 42nd and the 43rd floors with stunning sea views.
As per the records, the transaction was registered on August 22, 2023, with each one incurring a stamp duty of Rs 60 lakh.
In the meantime, the particular skyscraper is known for witnessing some really high-value deals in the part. This comes at a time when India’s commercial capital, Mumbai has been experiencing a strong momentum in the real estate market. It has also recorded its best performance in the last month with a notable increase in property registration and stamp duty revenue collections.
Who is Surinder Chawla?
Appointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Paytm Payments Bank in January this year, Surinder Chawla is known for having an experience of over 28 years in the field of Retail Banking. Besides his current institution, he has also worked at some renowned places including HDFC Bank, RBL Bank, ABN Amro Bank, and Standard Chartered Bank.
Prior to his appointment at the Paytm Payments Bank as its MD, Chawla was working as a head of the Branch Banking at RBL Bank and was focused on expanding the Current Account Savings Account (CASA), base, fee revenue, and cross-selling among other things.
He is also said to have spent around 12 years in senior management roles at HDFC Bank where he served in the position of Senior Executive Vice President and other leadership positions for different regions including the Southern, Eastern, and Northern regions.
Also a merit-listed Chartered Accountant, the veteran banker has rich experience in the banking industry along with experiences in working and leading teams in the field of Relationship Management, Direct Sales Product Management, Retail Assets sales, and Branch Banking.
