Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday landed himself in a controversy after he made a “sexist” and “vulgar” remark on women’s role in the population control process during his speech in the state assembly.

While addressing the legislators, which included some women leaders as well, Kumar went on to explain how women’s education contributes to population control. He was presenting the data of the latest caste census conducted by his government.

A video of Nitish Kumar’s statements in the legislative assembly went viral on social media in no time with the BJP attacking the JDU chief for making ‘derogatory’ remarks against women.

Social media users also called out Kumar for his “crude” and “obscene” remark on women.

Slamming the Bihar Chief Minister, BJP’s Bihar unit called Nitish Kumar “the most vulgar politician in the history of Indian politics.”

Taking to X, the BJP Bihar unit wrote, “We have never seen a vulgar politician like Nitish Kumar in Indian politics… worm of an adult B-grade film has entered his brain… There should be a ban on his double-meaning dialogues in public.”

Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh also expressed displeasure over Nitish Kumar’s remarks in the state assembly adding that the chief minister is no longer fit to represent a civilised society

‘Wrong If Someone Misinterprets…’: Tejashwi  Reacts

Addressing media outside the Bihar assembly, Nitish’s Deputy Tejashwi Yadav said that the chief minister’s remark were about sex education and could be considered wrong only if someone misinterprets it.

“Let me tell you one thing. It is wrong if someone misinterprets it. The statement of the CM was regarding sex education. People are hesitant whenever the topic of sex education is discussed. This is now taught in schools. Science and biology are taught in schools. Children learn it. He said what should be done practically to stop the increase in population… This should not be taken in a wrong manner. It should be taken as a sex education,” Yadav was quoted as saying by ANI.

NCW Demands Apology From Nitish

Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), demanded an apology from the Bihar CM.

“NCW on behalf of every woman in this country demand an immediate and unequivocal apology from CM Nitish Kumar. His crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves,” she said.

“Such derogatory and cheap language used during his speech is a dark stain on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. We stand firm against such behaviour and call for accountability,” the NCW chief said.
