Kolkata: A Jet Airways plane carrying Mamata Banerjee hovered in the sky for about 40 minutes before touching ground due to emergency landing of an aircraft at the NSC Bose international airport on Wednesday that apparently left the West Bengal chief minister unamused.
Expressing displeasure at the delay of her flight from Bagdogra after her two-day visit to the quake-hit North Bengal and Sikkim, she said, "How do I know? They (authorities) claimed that it was a technical fault. But what kind of technical fault is this? There can be a delay of 10 to 20 minutes. While the journey time from Bagdgora to Kolkata is 40 minutes but it (flight) took 110 minutes to reach here."
However, she added that though the weather was bad, the pilot steered the aircraft well.
She told reporters at the state secretariat that she would not a lodge any complain.
Airport sources said the Jet Airways aircraft and some other planes hovered in the sky for about 40 minutes before touching ground due to emergency landing of a Kingfisher aircraft.
Air Traffic Control asked the Jet flight, which was to touch down at 2:55 pm from Bagdogra, and some other flights, to remain airborne as it had given permission to the Kingfisher aircraft for an emergency landing, the sources said.
According to the sources, the pilot of the Bagdogra-Guwahati Kingfisher flight sought the ATC's permission for an emergency landing as it could not land at Guwahati airport due to bad weather.
