It seems there is no end to the controversies; the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is courting everyday. It is now accused of using the premises of the Indian High Commission in Singapore to collect party funds, that too on January 26 (the Republic Day). Young lawyer and a social activist Shehzad Poonawalla has sent a letter to the Election Commission of India and the External Affairs Ministry complaining that the AAP should not be allowed to use the premises of the Indian High Commission for political activities.
Here is full text of his complaint.
"As a concerned citizen I would like to bring to your notice that Aam Admi Party's Singapore unit ( twitter handle @AAPSingapore and Facebook account fb.com/AAPSingaporeForum ) plans to use a solemn national occasion of Republic Day I.e. 26th January 1950 at the Indian High Commission in Singapore for its own political purposes of collecting funds!
Can the premises of our Indian High Commission ever be used for political motives especially for collecting funds? This poster put out by AAP Singapore unit proves the same. I am also putting tweets by AAM Singapore which accepts that such a program was planned. I would like to know if such permission has been granted to the AAm Admi party at all?
I appeal to government of India through Ministry of External Affairs & Ministry of Home Affairs to take appropriate action against these illegal activities. I appeal to you inform Indian High Commission to ensure no such event can take place. I also appeal to you to take the before Election Commission of India for appropriate action against the said political party. The ECI , who is also tagged in this email, must issue notice to Aam Admi Party on this illegal activity at once. This matter involves various legal implications especially with respect to monetary contributions"
