New Delhi: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) meet in New Delhi is being organised under the shadow of the Adarsh Cooperative Housing scam and the alleged role of Congress leaders including the current Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in it.
The Maharashtra Chief Minister is attending the meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Maharashtra Congress President Manikrao Thakre. But sources say a decision on Chavan is likely to be taken only after Diwali and after US President Barack Obama's visit.
Sources have indicated to CNN-IBN that no decision on Chavan's fate will be taken at the AICC meet as the two-member committee comprising of Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Defence Minister AK Antony set up by Sonia to investigate the allegation of a scam in Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society in Mumbai is likely to submit its report on Thursday.
The Mukherjee-Antony committee will also investigate the involvement of Bharatiya Janata Party-Shiv Sena in the scam. The party may also chart out a strategy to counter the BJP -Shiv Sena combine, who have been targeting the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party government after the scam broke out.
Congress has already issued a gag order on the Maharashtra leaders after former chief minister of the state, Vilasrao Deshmukh, blamed current Chavan for the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam in an exclusive interview to CNN-IBN.
Deshmukh hit out at Chavan saying that it was Chavan as revenue minister who sent him the Adarsh society proposal that he cleared in good faith.
Even though the meet marks 125 years of the Congress but in the backdrop of the Adarsh society scam, the celebratory mood seems to be missing.
