In yet another foot-in-the-mouth comment by a Bharatiya Janata Party leader, party MP Satyapal Singh has called the Dadri lynching case a 'small' incident.

The MP who is a also a former Mumbai Police Commissioner said, "As far as a small incident like Dadri is concerned, our country's democratic atmosphere is fully competent to handle. Our country is full competent to handle such incidents."

Reacting to the same, Congress claimed that his statement shows the strategy of the BJP. "I'm dismayed by the statement. It is a reflection of what the BJP is trying to do. It is all according to their strategy. It is a story of polarisation, " Congress leader Ajoy Kumar said.

The BJP had recently cracked the whip on its party leaders over the Dadri lynching incident asking them to refrain from making provocative statements in the gruesome murder, said sources.

According to the sources, the party had instructed that only the MLA and MP of the area to visit the village.

On September 28, 50-year-old Mohammad Akhlaq was killed over rumours that his family had stored beef in their home in Bishada village of Dadri in Uttar Pradesh. Akhlaq was beaten to death by a mob after a public announcement from the local temple.

His 22-year-old son Danish who was also attacked and had to undergo two brain surgeries. The incident has sparked outrage in the country, with parties attacking the BJP alleging that the killing was a result of its "politics of hatred".
